Betsey Johnson Forever!

So about 3 weeks ago, around the time I last posted I found out that Betsey Johnson had filed for bankruptcy and would be closing the majority of her stores. It was definitely upsetting as I am a huge Betsey fan. One good thing coming out of this are however the sales that are currently going on in stores and online so if you a Betsey fan like I am support the brand and check it out. I’d also like to take this time to present some of my favourite collections.

1) Autumn/Winter 2010-11/Fall 2010 - Think Gypsy girl gone bad with playful sultry elements and you have this fabulous autumn/winter (fall) collection!

2) Spring/Summer 2012 - Delicate babydoll lace corsets with feminine florals spiced up with bold prints and chunky eye-catching jewellery. The highlights= bright pink lipstick & the lightning bolt earring!

3) Spring/Summer 2009 - If Little Bo Beep lived in the 80’s this collection would be her wardrobe. I love it! Love the signature bowler hat too!

4) Spring Summer 2011 -“Le Tour de Betsey”-  inspired by cyclists and Le Tour de France, the collection is electic, playful and suggestive. The highlights = The “Ride Me” necklaces worn by all the models and the bold ballerina dresses some of which had bright hues of paint applied on to them. Absolutely Love!

5) Autumn/Winter 2012-13 / Fall 2012 -Betseymania!- sixties nostalgia, mod looks with circular shades and streamline jackets -Flamboyant and Fabulous!

Betsey Johnson’s career has spanned over 40 years and ever since creating her own line in 1978 she has blessed the catwalk with a distinct style that was always flirty, feminine and fun and had typically had an element of punk. Despite filing for bankruptcy all hope is not lost- She will still remain creative director of the brand and will continue designing for her moderately price lines and also has a new reality series coming out with her daughter Lulu.

Whatever may be the future for Betsey Johnson I just want to say thank her for blessing the catwalks with her unique style that appealed to so many, a style that will never be forgotten!!!

Buried Treasure: Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring/Summer 2012

Today’s Buried Treasure is  Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/ Summer 2012 Couture collection! I think this collection is particularly special because it is a tribute to the late and great Amy Winehouse. (FYI: Amy Winehouse was/ is one of my favourite singers so it had that special charm for me) This collection really embodied Amy Winehouse’s style: the cat eye, the polo shirts and the signature beehive. Turn that up a notch with a fluro-colour palette and sultry couture gowns and you have this collection. I can’t even truly describe this collection in a way that gives it justice so click here and check it out for yourself. I don’t know about you but the pink beehive has me sold.

Goldrush! : Charlotte Free!

The current goldrush is the relatively new girl on the scene, the pink haired siren, Charlotte Free! I don’t if it’s her pink hair or her fresh faced looks either way she is what everyone is going on about! I personally thinks she adorable and has an edge to her that not many models have nowadays.

She made her debut at the autumn/ winter 2012 catwalks and ever since she has modeled for the likes of Vivenne Westwood, Jeremy Scott and Marchesa.Even maybelline wants her! Yes that’s right. She has also just nabbed a contract with Maybelline. SWEET! At only 18 years of age, she has definitely come a long way already and has got an long exciting modelling career ahead of her. The images above are from Wonderland November/December 2011, shot by Elena Rendin.  I love these shots because they’re so regal and elegant while at the same time whimsical, colourful and current.

Try This Trend: Flower Power!

One of the season hottest things is flowers and it’s come in full bloom (pun intended). Don’t believe me? Here’s some examples off the catwalk for spring summer 2012:

(From left to right)

  • Rodarte
  • Ashish
  • Chloé

  • Dries Van Noten
Flowers have always been popular (and a personal favourite) and while those flowers start to bloom around you and the sun is shining (well it should be, sadly not always the case but a girl can dream) the fashion world encourages you to have a bit a flower power and adorn yourself with flowers. Here’s some awesome finds below:

  1. Spike Flower Garland from Topshop
  2. Flower Garland from Ebay
  3. Flower Origami dress from H&M
  4. 90’s Child Floral Tee from Forever 21
  5. Floral skirt from H&M

Power to the Flower! So feminine, so fun, and so versatile!

Buried Treasure: Prada Spring Summer 2011

This week’s Buried Treasure is Prada’s Spring/ Summer 2011 collection. This is by far one of my all time favourite collections. I love the back to the future feel that is communicated with the 1920’s flapper-esque hairstyles and the futuristic glasses. I love the mixture of stripes with jungle prints. The colour palette is fab, consisting of hot pinks, emeralds, bright orange and electric blues. This colour palette just pops against the minimal silhouettes and the occasional mermaid skirts. This collection is sophisicated, fun and timeless. Click here to see the fabulous full collection!

Bye Galliano Hello Raf Simons!

Exciting Stuff! Ever since John Galliano was fired from Christian Dior (which everybody knows about now so we’re not going to dwell on it) the post at the fashion house has been open. There were rumours at a time that Marc Jacobs was going to nab the job but it has recently been confirmed that Raf Simons will take on his role as artistic director.  Raf Simons was previously creative director at Jil Sander. His designs are really colourful, avant garde and clean cut while still mantaining a super feminine feel. Although I’ll always have love for John Galliano’s designs with historica.l whimisical elements, I definitely think Raf Simons will be a good fit for Dior because both him and Galliano share one thing: Extordinary use of colour!! Here are some of Raf Simons previous collections at Jil Sander:

Jil Sander Spring/ Summer 2007: Smart, Pops of Colour and a little sprinkle of glitter

Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2011: Clean cut, stripes and colourful skirts to list a few

Jil Sander Autumn 2012/3 / Fall 2012: Beautifully feminine with pastels and pops of red,Raf Simons final bow

I definitely can’t wait to see what he brings to Christian Dior!!

Try This Trend: Dip Dye Hair (Without Bleach!!)

Okay so I know many of you have seen/ heard about the dip dye phenomenon thats been very popular as of late and for colour fanatics like me who just love colour everywhere and anywhere this is probably one of the best things to hit the scene. If you don’t know what I’m on about (and by which means you don’t live you don’t live on this planet … just kidding) then here’s a few more examples below:

(Yes even Barbie looks fab with the trend :P)

I myself have tried this dip dye my hair, with erm not the greatest of results. I tried dying my hair pink but it actually came out red but that’s another story entirely. The reason why it didnt work: I didnt bleach hair. Yeahhhhh and I’m still not gonna! So if you’re a bleach-a-phobe like me and you like this look and you dont have naturally blonde hair, here’s the possible answer to our prayers: COLOURBUG!

It is like eyeshadow but for your hair and super pigmented. Awesome stuff and it work on dark hair too. It’s temporary and lasts till it’s washed out. It currently comes in these three colours and costs £12.95.  I’ll definitely be trying it out when summer comes around, that’s for sure. To find out more information click here and click here for videos on how it works!

Buried Treasure: Blumarine Spring Summer 2010

Today’s Buried Treasure is  Blumarine’s Spring/ Summer 2010 collection! I love this collection because its so pretty, flamboyant and colourful. I love the tie dyed fabrics! So summery and fabulous! I also love how theyve been mixed with very feminine silhouettes with big puffy sleeves that bellow out at the armhole. I also love the funky leather jackets too. Too CUTE! The clean and ultra summery colour palette of pinks, mint greens, beiges and vibrant oranges bring together the looks so perfectly. To see more of the collection click here.

Goldrush! : Rainbow Bright Lipstick!

Yes the current goldrush  is bright and bold lipsticks. I love this look and it is definitely another way to add a pop of colour to an outfit, especially if your outfit is very understated with minimal colours. It however can also be worn with beautifully flamboyant outfits too. The main colours I’ve picked are purples, oranges, blues and my personal favourite PINK! However don’t think that these are the only colours around, theres the timeless red, slightly outlandish green and lemon yellow which I’ve seen too. These crazy colours can be seen in Spring/ Summer 2012 collections below:

From left to right:

  1. Betsey Johnson- Sassy Barbie Pink shades
  2. Jason Wu- Tangerine Tango shades
  3. Richard Chai Love- A variety of purple and blue hues
  4. Mary Katranzou- A pop of Beautiful sky blue

Now if you’re wondering where these crazy colours can be bought, they can be found in many places including ebay (another personal favourite), MAC and any beauty supply store. In addition an amazing beauty line known as Limecrime caters to the the girls that like to be daring and wild with their makeup. Its unique shades of lipsticks are like no other and can be seen below:

One word: CUTE!  Doe, Deere (on the right) is the creator who’s just undeniably kawaii (cute)! Good on her for creating such a wonderful line!  To see more including her other makeup from Limecrime click here

Lastly, just to say if you havent already tried to get youself a rainbow coloured lipstick, do so! Be fearless and have fun, thats what I think Fashion’s about anyways haha!
